watering the seeds
i just want to begin by saying thank you to indigo ocean for having the initiative to start this website. for me writing (and reading) these entries are about watering the seeds of joy, compassion, and peace. i am deeply influenced by the teachings of thich nhat hanh. he often speaks about the seeds that we have in our consciousness---the seeds of anger, violence, jealousy, greed, love, peace, kindness, empathy. it's all there. no one of us is any different. the good is right there along with the bad.
if we water the seeds of violence, pessimism, judgement, and competition---as it is so easy to do by just turning on the tv or reading the newspaper---that is what will grow within us and within our culture. so i make it a part of my daily practice to be mindful of what seeds i am nurturing. there are opportunities every minute to cultivate peace. as thich nhat hanh says, peace is
every step. can we see this? can we train ourselves to not give into the seductiveness of watering the negative seeds in our consciousness? that is what mindful living is about for me, and i am excited that this website will play a part in that.

Thanks so much Haiku for this beautiful offering. And you are also quite welcome for my initiating the site. It is something I am happy to be a part of.
Each day I make the moment by moment effort you are talking about to take responsibility for where I place my attention. The dominant culture is built around attending to what we don't want, not realizing that such attention keeps us mired in what we don't want. Unlearning that habit takes real clarity, resolve and support. Here we can help support one another and those who pass through. Namaste.

I am sure we can, the key thing is awareness and to put our awareness into pratice. It's all good to say that we want to be positive and spiritual but in reality we still have obstacles to face all the time. For example, last week I had a couple of days when I was emotionally drained and couldn't help with my self-pity when I didn't get the dream job I had hoped for. Although I kept telling myself to think positive and to rid all my negative thoughts, the reality is that I was clouded with a sense of defeat. I was however blessed with a meditation session on Friday night where I learnt how to meditate to create a sacred sactuary for oneself at any time during any circumstance. I guess what I am saying here is: practice makes perfect! Thanks haiku for this post which came at the right time and for me serves as a reminder of watering positive seeds.
PassionCity, sorry to hear the job situation didn't go the way you had hoped, although I am confident it is only because God/the Universe/your higher self (whatever term you use) has greater plans for you. By greater I don't mean by worldly standards. Who knows, since Spirit doesn't apply value by worldly standards, but by its own. But greater by the standards that truly create a happy life.
It sounds like you used the opportunity to move yourself more fully into alignment with your spirit. That puts you in the perfect place for not only experiencing contentment, but also for manifesting the highest visions of your spirit. I think great things are coming your way. So really, I am very happy your job intentions did not limit you to only what you could envision using the conditioned mind. Congratulations!

passion city: i'm still trying to figure out the difference between paying mindful attention to things like disappointment, depression, sadness, and wallowing in them (watering those seeds). i definitely think we need to embrace those unpleasant states with mindful attention. kind of like cradling a crying child. but there is a point, and i suppose we all need to rely on our inner guide/intuition/wisdom, where we need to move on and start actively watering the seeds of peace. i think the more we practice, the better we will get at knowing where that point is.
my best wishes to you.
